14th May 2002 Sorry for the HUGE delay in updates to this site..I have many excuses but you don't want to hear that!  Anyway I have added a new feature to 12RW...a Separated at Birth page which has a bit of an X-Files feel to it...

A new MLS tribute site has been launched by Caroline from 'Welcome to my Archipelago' fame.  Check it out, it's called Checkmate!

I will try and update the Afterlife pages too soon, although Jake and Aaron seem to be doing great on their own site so just look there really!

17th June 2001 Jake exclusively informed 12RW that his new band will launch their web-site and hence themselves on July 1st 2001.  Watch this space for further news and reviews of some Demo Tracks. See the new 'Jake's New Band' website.
14th June 2001 12RW received a copy of a pre-Mornington Crescent demo CD with a previously unheard track 'Meet Myself' on.  This track has been added to the Discography and Music pages.
May 2001 Lucy and Rob were spotted on CD:UK playing with The Divine Comedy on their new single 'Bad Ambassadour'  This follows an earlier sighting of them on T4 playing with the Dum Dums on 'Army of Two' a few months ago.
8th April 2001  12 Reasons Why has launched a new site....Jake's New Band ...a home for information, rumours, reviews, previews about Jake's new project with Aaron Cahill.

COMING SOON..some sneak previews of five demo tracks!

7th April 2001 *THIS WEEK: JAKE SHILLINGFORD ON THE WHEELS OF STEEL!*

At the end of last year, after a decade as the best live band in London and the best kept secret in pop, the fabulous My Life Story sadly called it a day (boo! sob!) with three unforgettable farewell gigs at the Camden Underworld. Fear not, however, for MLS main man Jake Shillingford will be back (hooray!) sooner than you expect in a different guise. In the meantime, we have spared no expense to jet in the gap-toothed genius all the way from New York, where he now lives (OK, OK, he was coming over anyway), to entertain you lot on the Stay Beautiful decks this week (Wednesday 4th April). - from Sparkle mailing list

3rd April 2001 Le Grand Magistery have announced that they will be releasing 'Joined Up Talking' in Summer 2001.
7th January 2001
Excite has suspended all their clubs...therefore More Reasons Why has vanished without a trace..sorry for any inconvenience.
16th December 2000

THE END OF THE STORY!

In a shock (but worryingly anticipated) announcement by the band just before the three Camden gigs, these were the last UK gigs ever. My Life Story came to a very emotional end on Friday 15th December 2000. For details of the last three gigs with set lists and photos see the Gigs Page.

There are no plans for www.twelvereasonswhy.co.uk to stop and will remain as long as possible. I will aim to include ANY new reviews, photos etc that I find and will also try to include news of any ex-member's musical careers. I am also in the process of including a copy of www.mylifestory.uk.com here as Jake mentioned it will be deleted in the near future.

24th October 2000
My Life Story will be performing 2 very rare shows as a stripped down 3 piece (Jake Shillingford, Danny Turner, and Roger Moore) this coming Wednesday (tonight at Midnight) AND Saturday (October 27) at The Fez (372 Lafayette Street, under Time Cafe) in New York City, as part of their U.S. label, Le Grand Magistery's festivities at this year's CMJ Music Marathon.

NEWS from www.mylifestory.uk.com....

London Shows

The full band are to play a hat-trick of London shows just before Christmas. My Life Story, who will be approaching it's 15th year in 2001, will be celebrating with 3 retrospective sets at The Underworld in Camden Town on 13th, 14th and 15th of December. The band felt it would be appropriate to echo the now 'infamous' Month of Sunday's shows that took place in 1996 at Dingwalls, up the road, where Jake hatched the master plan and the group eventually got signed. Similarly MLS will be performing a different set each night with an acoustic set beforehand and one (as yet unannounced) support band for each night. The albums 'Mornington Crescent' and The 'Golden Mile' will be covered as well as 'Joined Up Talking' that was released this year.

Jake & Me

After a fantastic two-gig spectacular, one small acoustic set and a stonking loud pre-Lightning Seeds gig, Jake managed to find a spare ten minutes to have a chat with me!! Okay I jumped him near the bar and asked him to sign my copy of MCC, during which I accidentely mentioned 12 Reasons Why expecting no more than a polite comment. Gentleman Jake, however gave me more than that!! He said that he and the rest of the band (including Lucy I hope) have seen the pages and really like them. After I picked myself off the floor..
We had a really nice chat about Jake's ideas for an official "www.mylifestory.com" website which would be simplistically arty and cool which could bring together all the MLS pages and info! Good idea.
Regarding the record label, he wouldn't tell me who they are with (via Polygram though), BUT the contract was going to be signed this week, with a single (Neverland!!) coming as soon as possible.
Here, Jake got even more enthusiastic about the possibility of releasing a new single over the Internet, if a more conventional way wouldn't be possible soon. A seven-minute long song, similar to Angel but not as dramatic, would be Jake's candidate for this novel approach, using the websites as a advertising and downloading source, exciting.
Ben, is apparently fine in himself, but is still unfortunately in pain. So much so that he can't go to any of the MLS gigs to which he is always invited. My wishes go out to him.

The Acoustic Set included:
  • Claret
  • Neverland
  • Silently Screaming
  • The Dice Man
  • New New Yorker

    The Live! Set included:
  • Suited & Booted
  • Sparkle
  • Motorcade
  • Strumpet
  • 12 Reasons Why
and new songs (in their rough form according to Jake)
  • Neverland
  • New New Yorker
  • If You Can't Live Without Me, Why Aren't You Dead Yet?
  • There's Nothing For Nobody And Everyone Wants To Be Someone
  • Walk Don't Walk
  • I Don't Believe In Love
and many others I can't quite remember, any help anyone???

The whole night was fantastic, a perfect end to my five years at Sheffield, although my aim to marry Lucy still has to be only a dream!
See some photos from the night on The Sheffield Page

    Comments:
    Dear Theologists,

I'd just like to thank all the people that made the trip to Farnham from London and beyond.

I was very pleased with the way the night went especialy as the show was nearly cancelled due to the fact that I had contracted pleurisy the week before and could barely breathe (don't ask me how I got it, the last person to contract pleurisy was an eighteenth century cabin boy.

I was also glad that we used the concert to perform songs that will form the backbone of the 3rd album. To those people who constantly want to hear old material, tuffff, you should have come to one of the thousands of gigs we have played over the last 5 years.

Negotiations are at last in motion for the new deal and I am hoping we can announce our new label in time to celebrate during the London Garage shows on Fri 22nd and Sat 23rd May. I can see that a lot of you have bought tickets already as both shows are quickly selling out.

I'm also pleased to announce our first gigs in Germany
We're playing the Rock am Ring festival at the F1 racing track near Koblenz on May 29th and the Rock Im Park festival in Nürnberg on May 31st. Last years event drew 45000, so we're hoping to get at least a reaction as EMI didn't really bother trying to push us in Germany with GM.

June and July will see us in the studio, I want to record the album in New York as I feel it has more of an International feel. If not then there's a great new studio in Belgium that Dan is keen on (or is that the Leffe).

    Love Jakexxx
