Sheffield University 1997

This 7 date tour got off to a bit of slow start, with only a half full venue at Sheffield University's "The Foundry". Support was provided by Rialto and Bennet. The former were a slightly better than average guitar 3 piece guitar band, the latter were a slightly worse than average 3 piece guitar band who shot to fame with "mums gone to Iceland", and ever since seemed to have dissapeared into obscurity
My Life Story, however were fantastic. A good mix of new songs from The Golden Mile, a few old songs such as Motorcade and Funny Ha Ha which delighted both new and long standing fans alike, and a liberal smattering of B-sides, in the shape of A boy Called Daydream and The Garden Fence Affair. Getting a 13 Piece Orchestra wired up and sound checked can't be an easy job, but the My Life Story road crew seemed to have got it down to a fine art. Not only was the sound superb, but they were ready on stage only 20 minutes after Bennet had finished their set. The intro track for this set of dates had changed from Danny's rendition of Sparkle to Sir Richard Steele, however it seemed to go on slightly too long and left some of the orchestra standing on stage not knowing quite what to do untill Jake ran on. That aside the rest of the set went brilliantly. "You Can't Uneat The Apple" now makes a regular appearance near the start of the set, and most of the other great My Life Story songs appear somewhere in the 50 minute set list, the only noticable ommission being Strumpet which was rumoured to be part of the set, but was left out, apparently because the orchestra hadn't practised it!
