Loughborough University 1996

Loughborough University was the first venue My Life Story Sunshine Tours managed to experience what was to become almost a way of life over the next two months. Tour Sparkle was now 3 days into it's long trek around the U.K, but Leeds University (the opening night of the tour) flatly refused to let anyone other then their own freshers into the venue. So we found ourselves at Loughborough, a very nice venue who welcomed anyone, student or not. Added to that the fact that the entry was free and the drinks were cheap it already had the mark of a good night out.

We arrived early, the venue was still virtually empty, and, as always at university gigs, the band were front of stage, and nobody except us seemed to have a clue who they were, or if they did they didn't seem to care. Jake was remarkable relaxed, and we managed to corner him to give him our views on the new recording of Sparkle (not all of them were complementary) and stage an impromptu photo shoot.

The crowd at the gig were one of the best university crowds I've seen on any of the tour gigs. The venue was very full by the time Ether came on stage and a lot of people semed to enjoy them. By the time My Life Story came on, there was no room to move on the crowded dance floor area in front of the stage. They played what was to become the standard full set list for almost the rest of the tour, and every song went down really well with the crowd. I think Jake was still trying to get into the swing of touring, this only being the third gig, becaues although we were treated to a full set, including Angel we were not treated to any of Jakes anecdotes. Infact there was almost no dialogue between songs. The string section were, however on full form, and provided most of the entertainment throughout the set with their on stage antics and regular visits to the front of the stage to come and see the crowd. Why can't all gigs be like this?
