Hull - The Room 1996

Yes your intrepid reporter has returned safely from the latest My Life Story Sunshine Tours expedition, albeit a very small expedition as there was only me and Lenny there. Still, 200 miles is no small feat.

On the way down there Sparkle came on the radio at the exact same moment that the most stunning rainbow I've ever seen appeared in the sky, really vivid in a full arc right from one side of the world to another, followed by a glorious sunset - Yeah, well very poetic and all that.

Anyway we arrived at the venue ridiculously early as we were expecting in the true tradition of My Life Story missions to get absurdly lost and chase several wild geese, but no this time we actually found the place straight away so had to go and partake in several beverages to pass the time.

Despite being so early Paul was already outside queuing with the rest of us! So we had a chat with him and he confirmed that the New Year's Eve one is on, either at the Roundhouse or the Forum, so good news there.

Also we somehow managed to falsely wangle our way onto the guest list (don't ask me how, I didn't have a clue what was going on by that stage) and got in, it was a pretty small place but the stage was MINUTE, they could hardly all fit on it, and they were about a foot away from the audience. I asked Jake where Becky was (she still wasn't there) she's doing a recital but will be back tomorrow (today, if any of you are going to Colchester) so all will be back to normal by Saturday.

The suit seems to be back to its former splendour as well, Mr Gammon must be very good at invisible mending.

The set list was slightly different, they did Silently Screaming as well but things kept falling over and clonking about on the stage so it was a bit spoilt, then they didn't do an encore at all. No Funny Ha Ha. No Angel. I was really disappointed, I think it could have had a teensy bit to do with the fact the place was only half full and only about two of us knew any of the words, about another three knew a couple of the tunes, so altogether not the most interactive one I've ever been to. (Typical after travelling 200 bloody miles or something!)

Still, Lenny was genuinely impressed, I think I've converted him cos he can't wait to go again. And I woke up at 4am to come back to London for work at 9 to find the bed full of confetti...
