Poor old Rialto, they were half way through their second song before Exeter university opened the doors to let the public in. They played on, however, as all 113 people rushed in, and straight past them to the bar.
Given the fact that tonights gig was being broadcast live on Radio 1 as part of the Evening Session on Campus series, the fact that only 113 tickets had been sold was a bit upsetting. Allowing for tickets sold on the door, there were still less than 200 people in the audience though.
That aside, the night was very much a typical My Life Story evening out. Far more than just a gig. You expect to find a party atmosphere at events like the New Years Eve gigs, and the forthcomming Election Night Extravaganza, but infact almost all of the My Life Story gigs I have been to have had a real party atmosphere to them. Exeter was no exception, the atmosphere was great and we spent most of the evening drinking Scrumpy at the bar and being told by one elderly (well over 40) Exeter resident that she was not a "Pasty Head".
My Life Story came on and, as always, gave an amazing set. Beforehand Paul and Danny had been saying they weren't looking forward to it, as they would have to behave and not have too much to drink as they were on the radio. Once on stage they seemed to loose their inhibitions however, Paul pulling huge Bass Shapes with his guitar and Danny acting like a lunatic behind his keyboard rig.
The crowd started off quite restrained, but Jake soon managed to work them up into a fever like frenzy. However it was only after the band went off air that things really got going. Both the crowd and the orchestra seemed to loosen up and the last few songs were absolutly manic with Jake and Becky rolling around together on the stage during the last song Funny Ha Ha whilst still trying to sing and play the violin.
