Brighton - what can I say, probably almost as good as LA2. Even though the
venue - the Pavilion, yeah right, more like the village hall, - was a bit small,
and it was over run with 14 year old girls again. I think most of them came
with Ian though. (Not that I've got anything against 14 year old girls, but
when they start getting the giggles after half a pint of Shandy you start to
get a bit fed up with them)
Anyway Gretchen Hofner were, well they were there! Until their bass guitar broke,
then they decided that enough was enough and buggered off. I think they were
a bit pissed off that everyone was just sitting on the floor watching them,
although one person did stand up, but I think they were going to the bar.
Then things started to liven up a bit. Ether came on, and Kumar decided that
it wasn't very good everybody just sitting down, so he wrote STAND UP on bits
of paper and stuck them to the Speakers and Drums. Needless to say no-one did.
Until, out of the corner of my eye I caught Jake, Paul and Kumar jumping about
in a corner of the stage, so I decided it was time to claim my place in front
of the stage. Jake, Paul and Kumar decided that Ether needed help on vocals
and kept running out from off stage to sing a bit in some song or other, and
then rushing off again. They then decided to hide behind the speakers and jump
out in the chorus of "Best Friend", before hiding behind something else later
on. It had to be seen to be believed, and it made Ether quite enjoyable for
once. And I think their drummer was quite impressed at the Four people I managed
to get to stand up, because he kept getting out from behind his drum kit and
shaking our hands. Strange!
After what seemed like hours My Life Story decided to make an appearance, playing
the same set as LA2 (and most other gigs) except "Silently Screaming" replaced
"Angel" as an encore - with "Funny Ha Ha", as well. After the LA2 I decided
I would be at the front for future concerts and I had a prime position clinging
onto one of Jake's monitors in the middle of the stage. Having nothing to climb
onto during "Girl A, Girl B, Boy C" Jake decided I'd make the ideal climbing
frame and reached out for the audience with only me to steady him. Luckily he
didn't fall! Other highlights were Paul donating his Towel to Polly, and me
blagging my way backstage afterwards with Paul to get the whole band to sign
the set list that I "borrowed".
